Repairs to a locally listed Victorian villa, Hertfordshire

Repaired and altered late Victorian Villa

This substantial late Victorian villa, circa 1880, was the childhood home of Professor Stephen Hawking. We have assisted with various projects including roof and brickwork repairs, various internal alterations including new bathrooms and designing a garden building. We also carried out extensive repairs to the ornate timber and glass entrance porch and entrance screen which had been crudely adapted to install an accessible downstairs cloakroom. All new joinery was based on original details. The Minton tiled floor was repaired and extended into the entrance hall. The front door was returned to a central position within a new glazed screen complete with a painted stained-glass panel, a copy of Flora a Burne Jones tapestry, created by a local artist.
