Pondwicks Close

Restoration and substantial extensions to family home, St Albans

Remodelled rear elevation

Pondwicks Close is included in the conservation area of St Albans and borders Verulamium Park, the site of the ancient roman city. The 1930’s houses are arranged on informal staggered plots with spacious well-treed gardens leading down to the river. This house had been substantially altered and extended to the sides and rear in an unsympathetic manner using fletton bricks with a keyed surface not intended for facework.

Our scheme involved remodelling, rebuilding and extending the house to improve all spaces and views. The new plan allows for four generous bedrooms with linked bathrooms. A lightwell over the stairs lets shafts of sunlight into the deep plan. The spacious open plan kitchen, living and garden room spills out onto the terrace and extensive gardens. Cosy rooms to the front provide a snug and study.
