Heirs and Graces Nursery, Tring
The project involved the conversion of an existing Victorian three storey building in the Tring conservation area into a day nursery for babies and children from 3 months to 5 years. The project also included an on-site student flat for nursery nurses.
We were involved in the scheme from the feasibility stage and advised our clients on Ofsted requirements and other relevant legislation. We were also able to advise on various practical aspects of early years architecture. We provided the full architectural service for the project.
The site is triangular and slopes steeply. We redesigned the car parking area, and the gardens to include a glazed outside play area and various play spaces. We also provided level access to all entrances which could be used by the disabled. Internally we added a new kitchen and staff facilities, playrooms for different ages with wet, soft and play areas, sleep areas, children's and adult w.c.'s. and an office. We also designed a new oak staircase for the entrance area.
Heirs and Graces nursery opened in March 2006 and is now a thriving day nursery providing a valuable service to the local community. We have recently achieved consent to add a further play room allowing the nursery to expand to a 50 place nursery
